If you’re planning a trip to Maui, this post is for you! Here I’m sharing the perfect 7-day Maui itinerary and the exact details from my Maui honeymoon itinerary that my husband Will and I followed when we got married in April!
Feel free to scroll straight to the end if you’re just interested in the day by day overview!
About Maui
Maui, known as the “Valley Isle,” is a breathtaking Hawaiian destination filled with pristine beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture. Nestled in the Central Pacific, Maui is the second-largest Hawaiian island, boasting a diverse range of attractions for every type of traveler.
Maui is incredibly diverse, featuring everything from volcanic craters to dense rainforests. One of the island’s most iconic landmarks is Haleakalā, a massive dormant volcano that provides stunning views from its summit. Hana, located on the eastern side of the island, is filled with lush landscapes, waterfalls, and the famous Road to Hana, a picturesque drive along the coastline.
The island’s culture is deeply rooted in Hawaiian traditions, and you’ll find a warm aloha spirit wherever you go!

When to Visit Maui
Choosing the right time to visit Maui is so important when planning your trip. The island enjoys a tropical climate, and understanding the seasons is key to making the most of this 7 day Maui itinerary!
Peak Season (December to March)
Maui experiences an influx of visitors during these months, attracted by the pleasant winter weather. Visitors can enjoy sunny days and cooler nights, perfect for warm beach days and mild evenings.
Shoulder Season (April to May, September to November)
For a balance between favorable weather and fewer crowds, I always recommend visiting during the shoulder seasons. This is an ideal time for a Maui honeymoon, with comfortable temperatures and opportunities to explore without the peak-season hustle and prices.
Off-Peak Season (June to August)
While summer brings warmer temperatures, it also marks the off-peak season. Travelers seeking a quieter experience can take advantage of reduced crowds and potentially lower accommodation rates.

What is the Weather like in Maui
Maui’s weather is characterized by its consistency and mild variations throughout the year. Understanding the climate can help you plan your activities and make the most of your 7-day Maui itinerary. However, it’s good to know there really is no bad time to visit Maui!
Maui’s climate in a nutshell:
Trade Winds: The island benefits from refreshing trade winds that moderate temperatures, especially along the coasts. This ensures a pleasant atmosphere for outdoor activities.
Temperatures: Maui generally experiences mild temperatures, ranging from the mid-60s to the upper 80s. Coastal areas tend to be warmer, while higher elevations may be cooler.
Rainfall: While rainfall can occur, Maui features distinct wet and dry areas. The windward side (eastern) receives more rain, creating lush landscapes, while the leeward side (western) tends to be drier.
Best Area to Stay in Maui
The best area to stay in Maui can vary depending on what your goals are for your trip! Because the island is so diverse, choosing the best area to stay in Maui is an important part of planning. Depending on the area, you’ll find varying amenities, weather, activities, and accessibility. But for honeymooners, there are two main areas I would recommend – Wailea and Kapalua

WAILEA
Wailea is located on the southwestern side of the island, and is the epitome of a tropical paradise. Its consistent sunshine and gentle trade winds make it ideal for sun-seeking honeymooners. Imagine starting your day with a leisurely walk along the pristine Wailea Beach, followed by a day of snorkeling in crystal-clear waters.
But Wailea is not just about sun and sand. It’s also home to world-class golf courses and high-end shopping. If you’re like me and appreciate the finer things in life, you’ll find Wailea’s luxury resorts and fine dining restaurants perfect for your honeymoon or romantic getaway.
In summary, Wailea is the best area to stay in Maui if you’re looking for sunny weather, 5-star resorts, endless restaurants, and luxury shopping!
KAPALUA
On the northwestern tip of Maui, Kapalua stands in stark contrast to the sunny Wailea. Here, the lush, green landscapes and cooler temperatures (thanks to the extra rainfall) create a tranquil and romantic ambiance, so it’s a natural haven for adventure-seeking couples.
Kapalua is famous for its rugged coastline and dramatic cliffs, providing breathtaking views and intimate moments. Take a leisurely stroll along the Kapalua Coastal Trail to witness the sheer beauty of the island’s northern shore. If you and your partner enjoy hiking and exploring nature, Kapalua’s charms will undoubtedly captivate your hearts.
Best Maui Hotels
Maui is the luxury resort capitol of the Hawaiian Islands! But with dozens of amazing 5-star resorts, it can be hard to narrow down the best place to stay.
For a complete guide to all the best resorts I recommend for this 7 day Maui itinerary, read this post.
For our trip to Maui, we chose to stay at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort. I wrote a full review of our honeymoon stay at the Andaz, which you can check out here!

Top Things to Do in Maui
Visit Haleakalā National Park
Haleakalā National Park is a must-do activity on this 7 day Maui itinerary! The top activity here is to head to the summit for sunrise, but don’t worry if you’re not a morning person. Sunset is also beautiful! Don’t miss the Sliding Sands Trail for a hike through the dramatic crater, and if you’re feeling adventurous, consider a guided stargazing tour.

Drive the Road to Hana
Making the iconic drive down the Road to Hana is another activity that I highly recommend on this 7 day Maui itinerary! This scenic drive along the winding Road to Hana, is the perfect day trip for discovering the hidden gems of Maui’s eastern coastline. Stop at Twin Falls for a refreshing dip in natural pools, explore the enchanting bamboo forest of Pipiwai Trail, and take in the panoramic views from the black sand beaches at Wai’anapanapa State Park. Delight in local treats from roadside stands and immerse yourself in the lush beauty of the Hana Highway.

Golfing
Maui is a golfers paradise with dozens of renowned courses. Tee off at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, known for its challenging holes and stunning ocean views. Golf enthusiasts can also experience the Wailea Golf Club, offering three championship courses surrounded by lush landscapes. Enjoy a perfect day on the greens, combining sport with the beauty of Maui’s natural scenery.
Hiking
While there are lots of hiking options, there are two trails that are most popular. Firstly, the challenging Pipiwai Trail, leading to the majestic Waimoku Falls and a bamboo forest. For panoramic views, hike the Waihe’e Ridge Trail. Whether you seek waterfalls, coastal vistas, or volcanic craters, Maui’s hiking trails cater to every level of adventurer.
Snorkeling
Dive into Maui’s vibrant underwater world at top snorkeling spots. Explore Molokini Crater, a submerged volcanic caldera known for its crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life. Snorkel at Honolua Bay, where colorful coral reefs teem with tropical fish and sea turtles. Consider a boat tour to Molokini or snorkel off the shores of Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve for an unforgettable aquatic experience.

Go to the Spa
Because of the many luxury resorts on Wailea, there are dozens of amazing spas worth checking out on your trip. Unwind with a traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage or rejuvenate with a spa ritual using local ingredients like tropical fruits and flowers. Even if your resort doesn’t have a spa, I recommend checking out a near by resort, such as the Four Seasons or the Grand Wailea Resort’s Spa Grande.
Explore the Beaches
Discover the diverse personalities of Maui’s beaches, each offering its own enchanting allure. Bask in the golden sands of Wailea Beach, a sunbather’s paradise with ideal snorkeling spots. Witness the impressive surf at windsurfer-favored Ho’okipa Beach. For a romantic sunset, escape to Lahaina’s Baby Beach or relish the sun’s descent at Makena Beach. Immerse yourself in the unique character of each coastal gem, crafting unforgettable moments that define your Maui honeymoon experience.

7 Day Maui Itinerary
Now that you have all the details needed to plan your epic trip to Maui, let’s get to the fun stuff… the 7 Day Maui itinerary!
Day 1
- Arrive around lunch, grab your rental car and head straight to Wailea to get checked in at the hotel!
- Spend the afternoon exploring the resort and head to the beach or pool.
- Dinner @ Morimoto Maui
Probably Out of Office Tip: Book a table on the outside patio around sunset for incredible views!
Day 2
- Grab coffee and walk the Wailea Beach Path.
- Breakfast @ Ka’ana Kitchen
- Spend the day relaxing at the beach & pool.
- Dinner @ Mama’s Fish House
Probably Out of Office Tip: Mama’s Fish House reservations book up 6 months in advance. Book dinner here early and check back regularly for availability that opens up.
Day 3
- Sunrise at Haleakala National Park
- Apply for a permit here!
- Dress warm! It is often in the 30s at the summit and gets very windy.
- Spend the afternoon golfing at the Wailea Golf Club. Even if you aren’t a big golfer, I rode in the cart with my husband while he played and had a great time!
- For dinner, go to a Lu’au! Two I recommend are The Feast at Mokapu (Andaz) & Grand Lu’au (Grand Wailea).
Probably Out Of Office Tip: Note, the drive to the Haleakala park entrance is 1 hour 15 minutes from Wailea, and you still have about 30 minute drive to the summit after you enter the park. Be sure to leave early enough to be parked at the top at least 30 minutes before sunrise.
Day 4
- Hike Waihe’e Ridge
- Grab lunch at the one of the popular food truck parks (Plate Lunch Marketplace, Corner of Dairy Road, Kihei Food Truck Park)
- Get a massage or facial at the spa
- Dinner @ Monkeypod Kitchen
Probably Out of Office Tip: Monkeypod is famous for their cream pies – our favorite was the Strawberry!
Day 5
- Spend all day driving the Road to Hana
Probably Out of Office Tip: Do the drive in reverse to avoid some of the crowds! Download the Shaka Guide app.
Day 6
- Snorkel @ Molokini Crater
- Chill day – relax at the beach/pool
- Dinner @ Duo
Probably Out of Office Tip: Book the sunrise snorkel excursion with Kai Kanai. They are located further south than other charters, so they are always the first boat out to the crater, meaning you’ll have it all to yourselves!
Day 7
- On your last day, I would typically recommend exploring the shops and restaurants in Lahaina; however, after the devastating fires in 2023, the community is still rebuilding. Until Lahaina is restored to its former glory, I would use the time to explore one of the many beaches that you haven’t gotten to hit yet on your trip.
